There was one $750 Scholarship available this year.
Congratulations to Pearl Stadelman, the 2015 winner of the $750.00 Peter Mehl Memorial Scholarship. Pearl’s application stood out among this year’s excellent field of entries with its impressive accomplishments and goals, exactly what the Scholarship was intended to recognize.
Pearl always knew that she wanted to be involved with the environment and natural resource management, but it wasn’t until recently that circumstances allowed her to pursue her passion full time. Pearl understands that both forest and wildlife management are very complex, so upon completing NAIT’s Forest Technology Program in 2016, she will continue her studies in the Biological Sciences Technology Program in order to gain a full understanding of the issues.
During Pearl’s time volunteering with Work Wild in the role of co-presenter of forestry and environmental impact issues, she realized that sharing her knowledge with today’s youth would be a vital step in changing the common misconceptions of forestry in general.
Pearl has learned to strike a balance in her life. Being a Mom and an older student has presented both challenges and rewards, but at the same time has enabled her to see the importance of helping and encouraging others. She takes new challenges in stride and will continue to dedicate her time to volunteering, and being a voice for this sustainable industry.
The Peter Mehl Memorial Scholarship is available to all students across Canada who are enrolled in a Forestry, Ecological or Environmental related program, and who have been a member, leader or volunteer for a not-for-profit youth program. Read more here.
*Scholarships will be awarded each September. Information on the 2016 Scholarship Awards will be posted on the main Scholarship page in spring 2016.
